Keeping track of inventory (jewellery components)

Question

Dear Sir/Madam,

I create necklaces, bracelets, earrings, etc. myself. I do not purchase these items, but I do purchase the components. I was wondering whether I need to keep track of the components in inventory. These are individual beads, etc. Some of them are wafer-thin pearls, which are almost impossible to count. That is why I was wondering.

Thanks in advance!

I don't know if what I'm doing is correct, but I try to use up all my materials as much as possible in the earrings I sell by the end of the year. That way, I can divide the total price of trade goods by the number of items I've created. At the end of the year, I calculate the sold items and that tells me which amount of stock will carry over to the next year.

Of course, you don't have to count these, a good estimate is sufficient.

Best regards,
Louise
