Exempted from VAT vs VAT reverse charged

Question

Hello,

I have a small business that is exempted from VAT.

When I create invoices for foreign customers in Dexxter, the message ‘exempted from VAT’ is automatically stated. Does this mean that foreign customers who are themselves exempt can also ‘benefit’ from my VAT exemption? Or is the VAT reverse-charged anyway?

Thanks in advance!

You do not have to charge vAT, so they do not have to pay vAT.

Your customers do not 'benefit' either, because if they do not pay vAT, they cannot get it back either.

Kind regards,
Louise

Thank you!

By customers who could 'benefit', I mean customers who cannot reclaim VAT anyway, e.g. private persons or organisations that are themselves exempted from VAT or not subject to VAT under the applicable legislation in their country. So I suspect that it is an advantage for them that I am exempted from VAT, just as it is for private persons in Belgium.

No problem, that's right. If they cannot reclaim vAT themselves, it is indeed cheaper. You can therefore best compare your price for those organisations with the vAT-inclusive price of your competitors. Perhaps you can charge a little more that way?

Kind regards,
Louise
