vAT incorrectly 0%

Question

I received a European invoice on which, incorrectly, no VAT was charged. I read that I can start a procedure to pay VAT after all, but it is a very small amount. I am inclined to just leave it and not submit the invoice. Is that allowed? Or is that fraud?

Hi, this is not actually allowed. The invoice shows 0% (i.e. no) VAT charged or paid. If you leave the invoice as it is and do not submit it, the VAT that should have been paid will never be paid. You will then have purchased your goods at 0% vAT instead of the normal 21%, so you will have underpaid for them. The tax authorities do indeed regard this as a form of invoices fraud.

All business purchases must be entered in the accounts, even if they are only €0.50.

Kind regards, Kurt
