As an entrepreneur, it is important to also dwell on and celebrate your successes from time to time. With champagne, for example ;). But is the cost of this allowed in accounts of your sole proprietors?
It depends!
If alcohol is served on a Friday evening to end the week and you have staff members: then it is allowed.
If alcohol is served on a Friday evening as the end of the week and you have no staff: then it is not allowed.
Alcohol consumed only by the entrepreneur: it is not allowed. There must be a social benefit and that can only arise towards staff members.
Moreover, you have to provide it free to collaborators. When you organise a work-related event (reception, open door, etc.), you are allowed to stop these costs in your accounts. Even if you have no permanent staff in your services.
If it’s not champagne but Kidibull (i.e. there’s no alcohol in the drink), you can always deduct it if it’s consumed in a work-related context. So also the water and coffee you might offer to collaborators or other stakeholders.
Cheers! 🍾
P.S.: Not drinking the champagne yourself, but giving it as a gift to a business partner? Then read how to stop that in your accounts here!
