vAT declaration problems

Question

I started up in December 2023 and immediately incurred a cost of €5,000 for a year-long training course in 2024. The invoice states 2023. I have now entered everything in Dextter, but I get an error message when I upload the file to InterVAT. It says, “The taxpayer’s tax regime does not allow him to submit a periodic vAT declaration.” How can I solve this? I do not necessarily want to be paid back for the vAT immediately, but I would prefer to retain the right to that refund.

Do you have a company that is subject to VAT or exempted from VAT?

Subject to VAT. I have since received an answer from InterVAT stating that I can only file declarations from 1/1/24, so I will submit my costs from the end of 2023 on a fiscal date in January 24 for the current quarter. Hopefully that should work.

I received a similar notification. I was exempt from last year, but since this year I am subject to VAT. You have to tick or untick this box depending on the year in which you are subject to VAT or not. It's a bit cumbersome, but that's how success was for me.
