Purchases of music online or offline, trade goods or services

Question

Hello,

I work as a musician/dJ in my secondary occupation. One of the most significant expenses I can claim is the purchases of music, both online and in record shops.

At the learning center, I learned that a commodity is purchased in order to be invoiced to the customer. In this case, I buy music to play at a gig for which I am paid. Is this a service or a commodity?

Thank you!

I would say services in this case... Because that music (at least if you assess your business model correctly) does not leave your company?

A commodity is indeed purchased to be sold to a customer, but what you have purchased has then also gone to the customer. It is out of your company, so to speak.

That music does not leave your business? You presumably purchase those licences and then play them as much as you want? That is why I would not exactly classify it as trade goods, but as something from services?

In this example (https://dexxter.be/je-spotify-apple-music-als-uitgave-inbrengen/?utm_source=learning_center&utm_medium=referral) there is a distinction between "professional vs private" use and therefore only partially deductible.

80% of the music I purchase is rubbish, so I do NOT listen to it privately, but it is necessary to liven up a contemporary dance evening. I have about 3 weddings and 2 other events per year, so what is the situation then?
