Question

Hello, I am an (amateur) musician, self-employed in a secondary occupation, not subject to VAT. I purchased a new monitor (Bose S1 Pro +, €584) for sound amplification during my performances. However, it can/will undoubtedly also be used privately from time to time as it has Bluetooth. Can I enter this as an ‘investment’ or should I put it in other cost category? Thank you in advance for your input.

Hello,

I am also a musician in my secondary occupation :)

I always put things like that under investment, and then I think about what percentage of it is professional. A microphone is easily 100%, and I also use my guitar 100% for work. I also record a monitor as 100% because I only use it professionally. But you can indeed also use it privately very easily, so you have to know that yourself. And then make an estimate of how much of the time you use it professionally vs privately.

Musical regards,

Ymke

Hi Ymke, thanks for your feedback. That's how I saw it too. How long do you write them off over? 1 year? 2 years? 3 years? ... Musical regards, Wim

I've booked it as an investment over 3 years.
