PhD and self-employed in secondary occupation

Question

I am a PhD student (KU Leuven) and would like to become self-employed in secondary occupation.
I know that the rules have changed and that it is now possible with approval?
I was also wondering how best to go about this? A sole proprietor? Or will I have to pay too much taxes?

A sole proprietor is definitely more interesting for a start-up. A company costs a lot of money. And as a PhD student, would you also fall under the category of self-employed student? Because that is also quite interesting for your taxes.
