Invoicing to yourself

Question

My activity is general renovations, electrical work, plumbing – odd jobs. I have two houses myself, for which I also make purchases of materials at 21% vAT and carry out work, such as replacing a rainwater pump. Can I claim and recover that 21% vAT? I can’t create an invoice for myself at 6%, can I?

You will indeed be able to recover 21% vAT and then charge 6% vAT, there is nothing wrong with that. But you must meet the conditions to be able to invoice at 6% vAT, of course. But the fact that you recover 21% vAT and charge 6% does not seem to be a problem to me. You will have to do this in line with market conditions, as if you were really your own customer. Don't just charge the price excluding vAT one-to-one, but with 6% vAT.

I agree with Peter, that seems right to me!

I do think you are expected to make some profit on the goods you sell. For example:

I am an electrician myself and want to build a new house soon. Wouldn't it be more interesting (but still legal) in my case if I made purchases of my materials through a wholesaler (better prices), but did not enter this in the accounts and simply paid for everything, including 21% VAT, with my private money? Because if I were to enter it as merchandise and sell it to myself, I would have to add profit on top of the vAT, on which I would have to pay taxes afterwards and end up making a loss...

What do you think?
