Question

I want to stopped being self-employed at the end of this year.

What steps do I need to take to do this?

I also have a current depreciation. What should I do about this if it has not yet been debited?

Thank you.

For vAT, you will in any case have to repay the vAT on the vAT amount that has not yet been booked. Please note that the vAT declaration always calculates 5 years for depreciations, even if you depreciate it over a shorter period yourself. For example, you buy a car for €30,000.00 in 2022 (to 21% vAT) and depreciate it over 4 years. This means you will reclaim £6,300.00 in vAT in 2022. You stopped in 2025 (for simplicity's sake, one day before you bought the car in 2022). This means you have depreciated 3 out of 4 years. For vAT purposes, you have only depreciated 3 from 5 years, so you have to repay 2/5ths of the vAT, or €2,520.00.However, for your balance sheet, this means that your car still has a residual value of 1/4. Either you sell the car (just before you stop using it, in which case you calculate vAT on the sale) and you are left with either a capital gain or a capital loss that is included in your annual accounts. If you keep the car after you stop using it, the residual value remains on your balance sheet.
