Old laptop worth €500 – investment OR ordinary expenses?

Question

Dear

Case: started in 2022 as a self-employed person.

I now wish to declare my 2018 laptop from my expense. The current market value is around €500. Taking into account that it may only last for another 1.5 years and amounts to less than €1,000.

Can this be an expense without investment/without writing it off?

  • Is it smarter to declare this as an expense or as a 2-year investment?

  • I would put it directly stopped in expenses, if you yourself have doubts about how long it will last, but also because it still has "little" value.

500 euro for all kinds of small purchases, perhaps limiting professional use (no idea if you will only use that laptop for work). Especially if that professional use is less than 100%, I would not hesitate and would not depreciate it, but put it directly into expenses.

Just my opinion :) Not gospel

Thank you for your tip! I think I'll put it in expenses instead of depreciation.

I would do the same personally.
