A picture is sometimes worth more than 1,000 words

“I’m a branding photographer, but I see myself more as a visual storyteller. A picture is sometimes worth more than a thousand words, and I couldn’t agree more. Branding photography is more than just taking photos for social media or your website; it’s about using images to clearly convey what you stand for as an entrepreneur or a team.

How do I try to make a difference? By showing other entrepreneurs how important it is for them to make a difference. I try to capture their USPs in a unique way. The fact that I’ve always been a creative, “out-of-the-box” thinker helps. I try to notice the details that others overlook, so I can paint an accurate overall picture that goes deeper.”

Initially a handbag business

“How did I start my business? I initially established a ‘handbag business,’ where I made and sold handbags myself. I soon realized that I enjoyed the communicative aspect of running a business much more than actually making the bags.

I’d dabbled in photography on and off since I was young, but I didn’t really see it as a professional pursuit at first. When WITTEKOP made the transition from a handbag business to social media management and marketing—which I was studying at the time—photography naturally came more to the forefront. I hadn’t taken any formal training in it, but I realized it was something I truly loved doing and turned out to be good at.

Since then, WITTEKOP has evolved further from social media to branding photography. I still do some freelance marketing work from time to time, but my focus is on branding shoots and creative portraits.”

A bumpy journey

“My journey so far has been bumpy and uncertain. WITTEKOP has changed its core business a few times, but the essence has remained the same: storytelling for entrepreneurs and approaching the details in a creative way. By now, I’m a lot more confident in my business, my abilities, and my vision.”

Future part-time job

“I’m currently still employed full-time at Winwinner, but ideally, after a while, I’d like to switch to part-time and spend even more time capturing entrepreneurs on camera. I’d also love to contribute a photo essay to an article in a magazine like Knack, or the weekend supplement of De Standaard.”

Try, fail, and try again

“If you want to launch your own business, my advice would be: just go for it, try, fail, and try again. Believe in what you want to do, but also listen to advice from experts. Don’t be afraid to email those experts and ask to brainstorm with them.

I also wish I’d known that it’s okay to evolve along with your business and change direction every now and then. Personally, I thought at the beginning that I had to have everything figured out already, which held me back from taking the plunge.

I’d also wholeheartedly recommend Dexxter. Dexxter is easy to use, straightforward, and reasonably priced. It reminds me of important tasks and is a true all-in-one solution. I’m a huge fan!”
