Forget the MIAs—here come the LIAs! The Language Industry Awards are presented annually by De Taalsector to, among others, the most innovative language projects, creative language services and products, and promising initiatives in the language sector.
Sophie Rombouts, one of Dexxter’s earliest users, recently received the award for “popularizing language”. She owes this award to her master’s thesis, which she wrote for the organization Swap-Swap, which organizes exchanges between French-speaking and Dutch-speaking young people. Sophie interviewed several former participants and their parents. In this way, she investigated how to inspire as many children and young people as possible to broaden their view of the world through a language exchange.
Her thesis advisor was so pleased with the result that he submitted Sophie’s work to De Taalsector. To Sophie’s great delight, the jury honored her for making her language research accessible and understandable to everyone, including those with no background in linguistics.
The Dexxter team would like to warmly congratulate Sophie on her award. We are delighted to see how she has evolved from a self-employed student to a highly sought-after translator and interpreter in secondary occupation. She has also contributed to several translations here at Dexxter. We can therefore highly recommend her services!
