Petrol costs as expenses when a passenger car is not depreciated?

Question

Dear Sir/Madam,

I bought my car two years ago, independently of my self-employed status. This year, I became a self-employed student and I use my car a lot for my self-employed activities.

Can I claim my petrol costs from my passenger car for self-employed use as expenses IF my passenger car is NOT depreciated as an investment? Is ‘depreciating the investment’ a condition for claiming petrol costs as expenses?

You can claim all your passenger car costs (fuel, insurance, taxes, maintenance, etc.) as expenses for your self-employed status. You do not need to have purchased the car in the name of your self-employed activity.

Please note that you cannot claim 100% of the costs, as the tax authorities assume that you also use the car for personal purposes. You can try to estimate how much time per month you use the car for your self-employed status.

When I try to claim my fuel costs, I get a message saying that there is no car listed in my expenses.

My car was purchased before I became self-employed, so it is not depreciated.

As a result, I cannot enter my fuel invoices.

This is a new addition to Dexxter. The intention is that you link the costs to a car. You can 'add' this under management/cars. In my opinion, it doesn't matter whether you purchased the car as a self-employed person or privately.

That's right, 'TM'. All car expenses for a passenger car must be limited according to the characteristics of that car. It doesn't matter whether or not the car is registered to your business, it makes no difference. For example, if you were to rent a car from a rent company for a day and you fill it up with fuel, you would still have to limit those fuel costs based on the characteristics of that car from the rent company. What I mean is, it doesn't matter whether it's your car or not, or whether it's on your business name or not. You always have to limit the costs.
