How do you report income from companies such as Etsy and Booking.com?

Question

Hello,

i don’t know how to enter my income generated from sales via Etsy or Booking.com.

Through Booking.com, I receive a credit note for the commissions I earn on bookings made through my website.

The credit note is therefore not necessarily paid out; it is only paid out when my commission income exceeds a certain threshold (e.g. from £100 income). For example, if I receive a credit note for commissions in April 2022 from €50, it will not be paid out because it is below the threshold. If I receive another credit note for €75 in May 2022, I will be paid €125 in June because I will then have reached the threshold for payment.

How do I enter this? On the date I received the credit note for the amount stated on the credit note? Or on the date I was actually paid by Booking.com into my account and for the amount that was deposited into my account (i.e. a compilation of various credit notes)?

  • I received on a kind of invoice via Etsy, but here it never states a company number or vAT number. I am not subject to VAT, so it should be usable for my accounting.

Do I enter this income as it is stated on the invoice (i.e. dates and transaction amount)? Or do I enter what Etsy actually paid into my account? After all, Etsy immediately deposits the net amount, i.e. my income minus my costs (advertisements, transaction costs). The problem is that I don’t receive an official document from Etsy with my costs to enter. I have no idea how to correctly enter the above Etsy income and costs. Help 🙂

I have the same question, but for Twitch income. They also list dollars on the summary, but I get paid in euros. Do I enter the net amount deposited in euros? Or something other?

I have the same question regarding Etsy. I have already asked in several places how to enter your income, but so far I have not found anyone who seems to know. With Etsy, you do indeed have to deal with all kinds of fees and possibly marketing ad costs. You only receive the net amount in your account, but a clear summary per invoice is not available.I myself have little accounting knowledge. I'm getting a bit desperate, as I really want to start an Etsy shop as a self-employed person in a secondary occupation (small business exempted from VAT). My target group is customers in Europe, but also the rest of the world.

It would be great if someone could refer me to a website or person who knows about this. Thanks in advance!

Is there any more information about this here now? I have the same problem and I'm stuck. I am a small business exempted from VAT and I recently started my Etsy shop. At the moment, I have not filled in my vAT number in Etsy. Thank you for your feedback! As a business exempted from VAT, I would also like to start using Etsy, so I hope to receive an answer :)
