quarterly vAT declaration payment entered as an expense

Question

I have just submitted my vAT declaration via Intervat and made the payment. Do I also have to register the payment as an ‘expense’ or not? Thank you in advance for your explanation.

VAT is tax neutral, which means that it can never be an expense or income unless you are not subject to VAT, in which case the VAT charged on your purchase invoices is an expense and you take the total invoice amount as an expense instead of the tax base (i.e. the amount excl. VAT).

Decision: do not include VAT paid from vAT declaration anywhere in the results.

Thank you for the information.

Where should the VAT receipt be uploaded? Thank you in advance.
