Question

Hello, I am a self-employed musician in secondary occupation and am not subject to VAT. I travel to rehearsals and performances with our private/family car. I would like to claim the flat-rate mileage allowance for this. Dexter recommends creating a separate cost category called “mileage allowance” under the main category “my car” …

However, if I do this, I also have to enter the details of our private/family car when booking, even though it is not registered to my business … is this correct? Or should I follow an other procedure? Thank you in advance for your input.

I'm going to follow this question, because I have the same question! My car is currently still stated in the name of my parents, so I don't want to include it in my business yet. I would also like to enter my expenses via flat-rate mileage allowance. Thanks in advance!

Hello WS and SDS,

You do indeed need to enter the car under 'Cars'. This is because Dexxter needs a number of parameters, such as CO2 emissions, to calculate the rejected expenses. This is specific to car taxation. You don't need to worry about this, Dexxter does it all for you.

Thank you for the feedback. I have created our family car as a car and then entered everything as mileage allowance.
