Cost category Rental items

Question

Hello,

I recently started a company specialising in lighting and sound equipment for events. This mainly involves rental of equipment, but no effective sale.

Under which cost category should the purchases of this equipment fall? Initially, I thought to place this under trade goods. However, the equipment is never actually ‘used up’, so I don’t immediately see how this fits in with keeping track of inventory?

Thanks in advance,

Kind regards

Not trade goods, indeed, because you are going to rent it out.

Trade goods are for sale.

Book it under a cost category with the type 'services'. You can find this type in the summary of cost categories, which is always goods, service or investment. If necessary, create a separate category for this under the main category "general" or something similar. Always make sure that these are not investments (see article in the learning center), because then you must enter them as investments (also a choice in the categories, then search for investment).
