Claiming expenses on your tax return (box 1675)

Question

Dear Sir/Madam,

I work through Dexxter and am currently filling in my tax return for the past year. I have created approximately €500 in professional expenses, and according to Dexxter, I must fill these in in box 1675.I have done this, but in the final calculation of my return I see the next summary:

  • Income: €3,750

  • Social security contributions: €1,056.27

  • Net result (positive): €2,693.73Total taxable income: €2,693.73

My questions are: have my costs of €500 been deducted correctly? I don’t see them being deducted from the net result. Do I need to indicate something other somewhere else to process this correctly?

+ given that my costs are so low, would it be better to opt for the 30% flat rate?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Normally, you should not only enter your expenses in box 1675, but also your income, social security contributions and depreciation (included in the expenses). When you open your tax return on Tax-on-web, you can see which boxes you have filled in and whether anything has gone wrong. In the calculation, you first get the property taxes, then the wage income and the associated social security contributions, followed by the transitional income (unemployment, sickness, living wage, pension) and the tax deductions. Only in part 2 do you enter the income and expenses, social security contributions and tax deductions from your secondary occupation. Different rates apply to both parts. Professional expenses (if they are deductible, of course, and not already included in your employee section) should normally be included in that second part.
