Paying interim invoices or waiting for the final invoice

Question

I paid interim invoices for gas and electricity.

Can I enter these as expenses on a monthly basis or do I have to wait for the final invoice because sometimes money has to be refunded at the end of the year?

You can enter them monthly and then simply enter the final invoice when you receive it. If that final invoice is negative, simply enter it as a credit note (-> you can select this option when entering an expense).
