Question

Hello!

I am a self-employed yoga teacher and counsellor. I am travelling in Morocco to surf and to do yoga. I take a yoga class every weekday. This is partly for my own enjoyment, but I also draw inspiration from it for my own classes. Can I claim (part of) the trip as an expense? How do I determine which part, and can I include the flight tickets?

Yes,
You have to decide for yourself how much of your trip is business and how much is personal. The flight tickets can also be included. You could consider it as further training in yoga, for example.

Thank you Louise,

I now estimate that 15 per cent of the trip is business-related, so I can claim 15 per cent of the flight tickets and accommodation. Is that correct?

Kind regards,

Hanne

Days, Hanne,

That is indeed correct. I would claim 90%-100% of the yoga classes because you can consider them as further training in yoga. You can then claim 15% of the accommodation and flight costs.

Feel free to consider other costs as well. Are you buying a rucksack for the trip? Do you want to give surfing lessons with your company later on?

If you go out for dinner with other yoga instructors in Morocco, this could be considered a business dinner. In that case, you can claim 69% of the cost of those dinners (restaurant visits are standard at 69%).

Kind regards,
Louise

Thank you very much for the clear explanation!

Clear explanation indeed. Additional question about this: Ryanair does not issue invoices for travel outside Europe. The only thing you can get is an itinerary with the price underneath. How do you enter this in the accounts?

Kind regards,

Pascal

Dear Pascal

When booking flight tickets with Ryanair, I was able to indicate that I wanted an invoice. Initially, I did not receive it on, but I did after contacting Ryanair via online chat.

Kind regards

Lode
