Municipal tax:
Additional municipal tax 🏙️
On top of the taxes you pay to the federal government, there are also so-called municipal taxes.
These amounts, depending on the city you live in, between 0% and 9%, but usually hover around 7%. It is a tax on a tax. So municipal tax is a percentage on top of the total amount of your personal income tax.
If you have to pay €1,000 in personal income tax, and your city questions 7%, you will pay 7% on €1,000, an extra €70.
For Flanders, you can find a summary on the website of lokaal bestuur Vlaanderen here.

Some cities also levy a General Municipal Tax for companies. This is a yearly sum to be paid, often based on the surface area of your establishment.
So be sure to check this for your city so there are no surprises. For example, in Puurs-Sint-Amands this amounts to 65 euros per year or in Maasmechelen to 75 euros per year for companies with a surface area of less than 100m².
