Today’s question is: why doesn’t an investment show up in grid 83 of my VAT return?
What ends up in grid 83?
The VAT Code tells us, “the amount of purchases of assets”.
What are assets?
These are things that remain in your business for a long time, like an investment.
The difference is that only from €1,000 excluding VAT we talk about assets.
This is where confusion often arises. So you can book something as an investment, with accompanying depreciation, but therefore it does not necessarily end up in grid 83 of your VAT return. In order to qualify, the purchase must also meet the minimum purchase value of €1,000 excluding VAT.
Example
You buy a computer worth €900 excluding VAT.
You enter it as an investment with a depreciation period of 3 years. For your accounting, it is an investment, but on your VAT return it will appear in grid 82 (and not 83).
