Hello,

A few months back, I sold a voucher and issued an invoice for it. This is therefore included in my income. Now someone is paying their invoice to me with this voucher.

So, in effect, the value of that voucher is included twice in my income, even though I only received this income once.

How should I handle this correctly?

Thanks in advance!

I have now read the article about gift vouchers in Dexxter. However, I am still unclear about how to deal with this effectively. I work with two vAT rates, 6% and 21%.For the gift voucher, I had to draw up an invoice (as requested by the customer), which I did for €82.64 + 21% vAT = €100 total amount.

When I create an invoice with Dexxter, that invoice is automatically included in my income. Even when I sell a gift voucher via daily receipts, it is included in my income. Now that customer comes in with his voucher and pays €41.17 + 6% vAT = €50.

How do I handle this? My idea was to create a credit note for the purchase of the voucher, but I can't create a credit note for every voucher purchase, can I?

@Dexxter, is there an option within Dexxter to handle this correctly? I'd love to hear about it :-)

If necessary, I'll consult an advisor, but I want to be sure I find the right solution.

Thanks in advance.

That's exactly the problem. When you sell that voucher at a vAT rate of 21%, it is only valid for sales at 21%. Because once this sale is in your accounts, you don't have to enter it again as income when it is redeemed. You have already received your income. That is why you will never be able to issue an invoice for the purchaser of the gift voucher and the customer who pays with this gift voucher. But in your current situation: I don't think you can rectify this. Your sale of €100, incl. 21% vAT, is already included in your income. This also means that you will have to pay 6% too much vAT to the government on this sale. That is a loss for you, but if it were the other way around and you charged too little vAT and were caught, you would be in even bigger trouble because the vAT authorities do not take this lightly.

For the future: do not issue invoices for gift vouchers and if you do, you may only make them valid for certain products (from a specific vAT rate).

Kind regards,

Gert

I have now credited the invoice for the purchase of the gift voucher. This is therefore no longer included in my income. I have now simply registered the services and sale for which the gift voucher was used as income, so the correct vAT amounts are registered there. One option is indeed, as you suggested, to use the gift voucher only for goods (21% vAT).

Is it also an option to sell the gift voucher at 0% vAT and then apply the correct vAT percentages when the gift voucher is used?

Or is this not correct from an accounting point of view?

Doing your own bookkeeping is not always as simple as it seems ;-)

You are also not allowed to sell your gift voucher at 0% vAT, because then you would enter it at 0% vAT, which is also incorrect. You must either set the vAT rate when selling the gift voucher or not create an invoice and only enter it when the gift voucher is redeemed. In the latter case, the purchaser of the voucher cannot receive an invoice. Those multiple gift vouchers are indeed a mess. The tax legislation is actually lacking here.
