VAT for small businesses

Question

Hello,

I have a small business (self-employed in secondary occupation). My vAT number has been activated at Acerta, but I have less than 25,000 euros in income per year. Do I have to file a quarterly vAT return or not? I have not received any message from the tax authorities about this, but in Dexxter it seems that I do have to.

Thanks!

Hello,

Dexxter does not check this itself. In other words, Dexxter does not check whether you are VAT exempt or subject to VAT. We simply proceed on the basis of how you set up your account when you started. If, in hindsight, your account turns out to have been set up incorrectly, you can always switch. Via Settings -> General, you can select subject to VAT or exempted from VAT. Just click on Update and ideally refresh the page afterwards, and your account will be updated. Additionally, VAT exemption is not applied in an automatic manner. This is separate from Dexxter, but simply the VAT administration itself. During your start-up, which Acerta has completed, the exemption must be specifically requested. So you may be VAT exempt or perhaps subject to VAT, but feel free to question it with Acerta :)
