Vraag

Hello everyone, In 2023, I started a very small secondary occupation, which ended the year at a loss (partly due to a large amount of stock + investments). I have now filled in part 2 of my personal income tax for the first time and, to my great surprise, I will be claiming back approximately 1,300 euros for part 2. I have not paid any withholding tax and am not entitled to any tax relief (no children, loans, pension savings, etc.) through my secondary occupation. Can anyone explain why I will still be receiving a refund?

Without seeing all the details, this is difficult to answer. It is best to question an accountant with all your details. In any case, you cannot claim back more than you have paid. So if you are claiming back, it means that you have sufficient income and therefore also paid taxes through your main occupation.

In your question, you mention a loss from a large amount of stock, but that is incorrect. Unsold stock is not deductible in principle. An increase in stock is therefore more of an increase in profit than a decrease. In Dexxter, you can enter your yearly stock count to handle things correctly here in your taxes.

Thank you for your feedback. The stock count was indeed processed via Dexxter. My turnover amounted to barely 5,000 euros. I suspect that the refund does indeed come from my main occupation, but it is strange that the difference with or without part 2 is 1,300 euros. I will indeed have to consult an accountant, although that was not really the intention and I assumed that the processing in Dexxter was done correctly and that more insights could be gained in the learning center.
