Stripe tax invoice

Question

Hello everyone, I have a question about Stripe: I receive a tax invoice from them once a month, without vAT. How do I record this, given that Stripe is an Irish company? Specifically: I sell items for 35 euro to my online shop. I enter that €35 per item per day as income. But Stripe deducts costs from this, and I have a question on how to enter this in my accounts… Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello, I have the same question. I checked with my accountant and they also say that I actually have to pay Irish vAT. Otherwise, they have to file a special vAT declaration quarterly. Has anyone here been able to solve/update this?

I am also checking this with Stripe Support. I have already received an initial answer from them:

  1. Stripe services are provided in Belgium via SPEL Ireland.

  2. The reason for the VAT being 0 is that no VAT is charged directly by Stripe in this situation.

  3. Instead, if required, the user (that's you) will need to self-assess through what's called a "reverse charge" mechanism.

    1. https://support.stripe.com/questions/global-taxation-of-stripe-fees

    2. https://docs.stripe.com/tax/zero-tax#reverse-charges

I understand that tax matters can be complex, so let me know if you'd like me to explain any part of this in more detail. The key takeaway is that the 0 VAT is not an error, but rather a result of how cross-border services are handled in this case.

If you have any additional questions about this or if you need guidance on how to handle the self-assessment, please don't hesitate to ask. While we can't provide specific tax advice, we can certainly clarify how our billing works in this situation.
