Return code 1600 – negative amount

Question

Hello,

This may be a silly question (first time filing a return as a self-employed person in a secondary occupation), but in box XVII, code 1600 (gross profit), you cannot go below 0. In my tax return file generated by Dexxter, I end up with a negative amount, which was to be expected given the slow start in mid-2022, but am I right in simply filling in €0.00 here? Thank you in advance for your clarification!

Yes, but code 1600 will be negative because you purchased a lot of trade goods in 2022.

If you did not sell those trade goods in 2022, they must be included in your inventory (personal income tax > inventory). See also the info icon there and the learning center.

So if you 'transfer' the cost price of those trade goods to 2023 via that module, because you will only sell them then, code 1600 will not be negative in 2022. It is actually a good thing that they show that negative code, as it gives you an indication that you have probably done something wrong. In other words, all purchases of trade goods in 2022 are still there, even though nothing was sold there (in 2022). So you have to transfer them to 2023 for accounting purposes.

Useful, thank you!

Thank you for the explanation!

Now, in this case, it concerns goods purchased for professional purposes and, in particular, for giving workshops. So the goods are not 'resold' but are used for professional purposes (e.g. purchasing painting materials for giving introductory workshops). Does this make a difference or can it be entered as inventory?

Yes, they must be items of the 'good' type, as only these can be transferred to the next year as trade goods.

If you are not going to resell it, you must enter it under categories of the 'services' type. For example, 'small purchases of all kinds' or you can create something yourself, of course.

Great, everything is nicely stated now. Thank you very much!
