Purchase invoice from the Netherlands without vAT

CVA
28/04/2024
Question

I’ll try again: I received on an invoice for coaching from the Netherlands. The invoice shows an amount of 400 euros. I know this includes vAT, but this is not stated anywhere on the invoice. Nor is it stated anywhere that vAT has been reversed or that vAT is 0%. Do I calculate 21% vAT myself when I enter this invoice? Or do I enter this invoice as an expense?

Kind regards,

Carlos

If no vAT is mentioned, or something like 0% or whatever:

In any case, do not reclaim vAT, that's for sure. You could then enter it with vAT reverse-charged, i.e. Dutch supplier, and then complete the flow?

That seems to me to be the most correct approach.

Thank you for your answer.

My gut feeling tells me that this is an incorrect invoice. I know that the price of 400 euros includes vAT. But there is no reference to vAT anywhere on the invoice. No "vAT" reverse-charged either. No 0% vAT either.Normally, when I buy something in the Netherlands, I never paid vAT to the supplier. It is always without vAT.

Maybe we should ask them?

Sometimes it states 'including vAT' and then it is basically the same as the amount excluding vAT. But that's with a French supplier, just to clarify :)

Sales invoices from abroad and within the European Community should always be marked 'VAT reverse-charged' if they are addressed to a subject to VAT. The words 'VAT reverse-charged' must be included for the document to be valid. It's best to contact your Dutch supplier. If they do not want to provide you with a valid invoice, you will have to enter the invoice as a purchase receipt. You will then not be able to recover the vAT. In step 3, fill in €400 for both the amount excl. VAT and the amount incl. VAT (see the Dexxter video for instructions). Keep a record of your email correspondence with your supplier so that you can prove that you acted in good faith.

Thank you for your answer.

I do think this is an incorrectly drawn up invoice, but the supplier claims that this is how he always does it.

Dexxter is very good, but as soon as something doesn't go according to plan, I run into problems. This is mainly due to my limited knowledge of accounting.

When my subscription expired, I will select an accountant. That will cause me less stress.

Thank you again for your answer.

Kind regards,

Carlos
