Invoice to myself

Question

Hey,

I am an electrician as a secondary occupation. I would now like to install solar panels on my roof. Can I make the purchases through my business and issue myself an invoice to 6% vAT? Logically, I will not charge myself for the hours… is this allowed?

I can’t find much information about this in general. Thanks in advance.

Yes, I think so... To go from 21% vAT to 6% vAT, that is.

If you invoice yourself and don't add a profit margin, I think it's fine for you. Don't start doing it for customers, that would be a bit strange ;) But for yourself, I think it's okay.

I'll wait and see if any other person wants to/can share anything.

Okay, thanks for the info!

Normally, I think you are required to make a profit on the goods you purchase. During an audit, they calculate whether you are making enough profit on the category 'Purchases of Trade Goods for Resale'. I calculate a 15% profit on my own sales. Then you still only pay what you would normally pay at 21% vAT. The same applies to working hours. It will be difficult to accept that you are working for 'nothing'. So I always charge for a few hours. Since you are paying for all this yourself, you can use these budgets back and everything will remain acceptable for the audit if you do this consistently. Of course, it all depends a bit from the size of the amounts involved.I think it's best to think of a strategy in advance for what you're going to say during an audit. Now that everything ends on digital, it has become very easy for the auditor to pick out suspicious invoices. For a secondary occupation, it may be a little other, as you don't have to make a profit right away. For a main occupation, alarm bells will quickly start ringing if you don't make a profit for a long time (especially if you have no other income, e.g. from your partner or similar). If you are audited (personal income tax), I don't think it will be acceptable that there are no working hours on your outgoing invoice. There don't have to be many, but 'free' work does not exist for them. Then, according to them, you are working illegally.

Yes, I agree, especially with that last part. Installation is necessary for 6%... In that respect, it is best to include a few working hours to justify the installation.
