I don’t have a company car, can I still claim expenses?

Question

I don’t have a company car, but I do have a private van. As a photographer, I regularly travel (by bicycle and car) to customers, but also to trade fairs, etc. The car is not stated in the company’s name, which is not the intention. My question is: can I claim the travel expenses I incur for the above purposes as expenses? If I understand it as good, these are actual costs, but how do I calculate them? More importantly, is this allowed, even if the car is registered in my private name and not in the company’s name?

Yes, you can. When you enter the invoices for the expenses incurred for your car, you can indicate what professional use percentage this is. This applies to all expenses you incur. It is best to have the invoices issued to your business, so that you can also recover the VAT.

Thank you for your answer!

So, let's say I fill up with petrol for €100, which I pay for with my private account. 60% of this is for professional travel, so do I issue an invoice to myself (from the business to a private individual)? Or how should I view this?

You fill up for €100. Question the petrol station for an invoice with your vAT details, paid with your business account and entered under Expenses in Dexxter's passenger car fuel cost category. There you determine how much is for professional purposes (60%?).
