How and where do you record barter deals?

Question

I am a content creator/blogger and I regularly receive barter deals to promote on my social media. These can range from free books from hotel stays or a free weekend trip. How and where do I record this? I have already created a document stating the content of the barter deal.

Hey! My sister is also a content creator and she does a lot of barter deals too, and no costs are incurred here, so you can't enter something like that because no costs have been incurred, you see.

Hi.

Yes, I understand that. But you still have to enter it in your taxes because you have, so to speak, earned the value of that product, right? You still have to pay tax on it. That's what I've always been told, anyway. I don't know. No, because you can't estimate something like that 100% and it's often a grey area. Barter deals cannot be entered as an expense unless the company you create content for provides you with a benefit in kind form that contains certain information. But again, you won't have to or be able to enter anything in the accounts immediately. But I don't mean to enter it as an expense, but as income. Shouldn't you do that? Otherwise, isn't that a form of tax evasion? Or am I totally wrong about that? An accountant said I should enter it.

The thing is, you only have to enter something if there is a payment in cash. In your case, it is impossible to enter anything because this is not income.

I found this on the website financiën.Belgium.be

Are products and services I receive on also taxable?

Products or services you receive as an influencer in exchange for advertising services are also taxable. The taxable amount is the normal purchase value of the goods or services. You then declare this amount in your tax return as professional income or miscellaneous income.

What if I receive products or services unsolicited and do not promote them?

In principle, the value of those products is also taxable (as professional income or miscellaneous income) because you receive them in your capacity as an influencer.

So I do have to declare them, but my question remains...where?

https://financien.belgium.be/nl/private persons/belastingaangifte/belastingtarieven-inkomen/inkomen/influencers

It states here: "You then declare them in part 2 of the tax return under 'Income' (box XVIII, code 1650/2650). After deduction of professional expenses, they are taxed at the progressive rate."

If this is indeed correct, then my question is how you do that in Dexxter.

That's a good question that I would also like to see answered.

This question has been around for some time. Nowhere, not even the government, provides clear information on how to record this.

I gave the accountant a summary of all goods received on and their value. It seems to me that you can do this in Dexxter via the daily receipts, which also gives you extra income to put into your taxes. For your information, the page I referred to in the previous year is now stated here: https://fin.belgium.be/nl/private persons/belastingaangifte/income/influencer</

This is the answer I received on chat from a Dexxter collaborator:

"After doing some research, we do indeed have to agree with GC . The government considers barter deals to be payments in kind. You must therefore enter these in your accounts at their purchase value under your income.

How do you do that? Create a sales invoice for the customer who sent you the payment. In the sales invoice, enter the purchase value of the item sent as an amount including VAT. In the comment, you can note that the invoice has been paid by means of what has been sent to you.

Thank you for the update. I thought it would be something like that.I suspect that if you have received a payment in kind of > 250 EUR excluding VAT from a Belgian VAT-registered or exempted from VAT person, you are required to include this in your yearly customer list. (However, we are not in that situation ourselves.)
