Entering the purchases and sale of second-hand items

Vraag

Dear Dexxter,

I regularly buy second-hand items from private persons, for example via Marktplaats, and then sell them on to private persons. Sometimes I pay in cash.

I want to process this correctly in Dexxter and have the next questions about this:

  1. Under which category/general ledger account do I enter the purchases of second-hand items from private persons? And is it correct that I choose 0% vAT for this?

When selling these items to private persons, for which I apply the margin scheme, under which category do I enter this? And do I also select 0% vAT?If I pay cash for a purchase, can I use a screenshot from the sales conversation or payment agreement as proof in Dexxter?

Thank you in advance for your help!

For your purchases from private persons:

Cost category purchase: "Purchase of goods" - this is the correct category for second-hand items that you resell.

vAT purchases: Yes, that's right! You select 0% vAT because private persons cannot charge vAT - this is not legally possible. Even if they have the original purchase invoice, you are buying from the private person, not from the shop. And so there is no vAT on this transaction. If your supplier is stated as "private person" in Dexxter, you will see that you can never indicate or recover vAT. For sales: Dexxter does not support the margin scheme. Unfortunately, this is not included. So here, you will only be able to apply the normal vAT scheme via Dexxter.

Cash payments: A screenshot alone is not sufficient as proof. You need a complete proof of purchase with details of the seller (even if they are a private person), a description of the purchase and the price. A bank statement or screenshot is insufficient for tax purposes.

You can find an example of such a proof of purchase from our learning center!
