Can I still claim the cost?

Question

Dear Sir/Madam,

Suppose I spent €1,400 on a training course that is 100% in line with my secondary occupation. However, I will only start working in my secondary occupation after the training course has ended and I have passed the exam. Can I still claim the cost of the training course?

If the invoice for the training course is still within the same year, I would still book it. Also check the SBB website https://www.sbb.be/nl/magazine/zijn-de-onkosten-voor-de-start-van-je-zaak-aftrekbaar

A course to brush up your knowledge or a meeting with your accountant/bookkeeper are direct professional expenses. You can still claim these if you start your business in the same calendar year. As with any business purchase, you must also keep your proof of purchase (invoice, vAT receipt, receipt, etc.) for seven years and be able to demonstrate that you incurred the expense for your business. So I think it depends. To be honest, I wouldn't hesitate, even if it's from previous year, if it's 100% in line. That course ensures that you can start earning money, if I understand it as good? So then you can claim that expense.

Good to know! Thank you for sharing.
