From payment link to QR code ⛓️
Let’s start at the beginning, what is a payment link and why should you use it?
you first add a payment link via our options on your sales invoice, a subtle, visual indication on the sales invoice that the customer can pay digitally if he wants. Then, upon receipt of the invoice, your customer can click on this payment link and pay using his favourite payment methods (Bancontact, bank transfer, etc.).
So we always work by adding a payment link, never immediately the QR code itself. That way, there should be no big QR code on your sales invoice, just a subtle payment link. It also gives more options for payment because behind that payment link, there could be a lot more paying options.
Why pay via a QR code?
We mentioned during the introduction that paying digitally also had some advantages for your business. Well, one of those advantages is that your customer cannot make a mistake while paying.
All payment details are immediately stated correctly when the QR code is chosen. Attention, a (very) small cost per payment will be charged to you by Mollie.
A QR code: what impact?
Dutch research shows that invoices with QR codes are paid up to 3x faster. 40% of recipients pay the same day, which is only 5% otherwise. ⚡
Logical too, because not everyone is an equally smooth payer administratively. The fewer actions you have to take as a paying party, the quicker you will actually pay.
Are there any drawbacks? 🚨
By using a payment link, customers can easily pay an invoice. The danger with this is that many people who receive a payment link click on it without checking thoroughly.
This in turn leaves room for fraudsters, who have increasingly turned to payment links in recent years.
For example, fraudsters increasingly send emails, text messages and messages via social media containing a payment link. They make it look like it is in the name of an effective company, making people think it is an invoice.

How do you recognise a secure payment link? 🛡️
A secure payment link and a uRL from a fraudster are sometimes very difficult to distinguish.
Do you get a payment link by email, text message or via a message on social media? Your first reflex should be to take a quick look at the uRL before you effectively click on it.
Visually, you probably only see ‘pay digitally here’ or something similar in text. Then first of all, hover your mouse over the uRL and see if you see anything peculiar.
If something doesn’t seem right, don’t click through. First contact the person (or company) that sent you the payment link. That way, you will immediately know whether you are dealing with a secure payment link or not.

Feel free to create a sales invoice, including a payment link. Your customer receives your invoice, can then click on the payment link and is given the option to choose between an amount of payment options. Just scan the QR code and then he/she can pay via bancontact, for example.
