Recovering vAT on expenses outside the (non-)EU country

Question

Dear Sir/Madam,

I purchased goods from China for my company.

Upon import, I paid 150 euros in VAT (VALUE ADDED TAX) at the door. Can I recover this in Dexxter? UPS advanced this 150 euros to customs (the government).

I have proof of this (invoice) with my vAT number etc. on it. Do I need to enter UPS’s vAT number to recover the 150 euros or the government’s vAT number (does that even exist)?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Have you received an answer to this? I am in the same situation. I would also like to have my import VAT paid back.

I would also like to receive an answer to this, because if you book it as an expense, in my opinion you pay vAT on what you sell but you do not deduct the vAT (import duties) from your vAT declaration.

Same question here! Has anyone found a solution yet?

Yes, I got the answer from Dexxter itself. I'll look it up and post it here.

You can enter this with UPS or other delivery services you paid for, as a supplier with the type "Belgian company".

For the amount excl. VAT, here enter the non-VAT costs (16.40 euros in the example of your UPS invoice, the taxable extra charges). Then you can fill in the total amount including VAT, namely 203.41 euros.

For the cost category, you can use 'Transportation costs of goods'.

What will happen then is that you will pay vAT on your UK purchase via customs (UPS will take on this role here), but you will also recover that vAT via your vAT declaration.

Great, that's what I did in the end. Thanks for posting it :-)

Hi, how do you know that the system will make your import VAT amount 100% vAT deduction? If you enter 203 euros including vAT, that's not necessarily 100% vAT deducted, right?
