Received income for starting a sole proprietor

DL

Question

Hey everyone,

I have just started as a sole proprietor, but I have already received some affiliate income over the past year (since the beginning of 2023). Can I now declare this as income, even though I received it before the start date?

In addition, since November 2022, I have also taken a number of courses related to my activities. Can I still declare these as expenses?

Thanks in advance!

You can declare those expenses. You should also search for 'start' or 'start-up' or something similar in the learning center, where you will find an article on this. But I'm not sure about the income. It seems a bit like regularising undeclared work to me. But perhaps it would be better to enter it spontaneously in your accounts now, so that it is taxed correctly, which is what matters.

It's better to include that income than to simply not include it now. It's better to have it in your accounts before you get audited than to have to admit it afterwards and not have declared it spontaneously at the time.

So yes, just put it in your accounts, even if it's from before your start date. At least, that's what I would say :)
