Increase professional use of car

Question

Hello,

I started as a self-employed person in a secondary occupation last year. At the time, I booked the car as a depreciation over a number of years. However, I now realise that I use the car much more for my secondary occupation than the percentage I had specified. I would like to adjust this from now on, but I get a message saying that this financial year (2023) is already closed, so this is not possible. Can I open this financial year back without any consequences in order to adjust this? Or can I adjust the professional use percentage myself from today onwards instead of over the entire period that I was self-employed?

You can open a previous financial year, but you need to know exactly what you are doing, otherwise a number of things will no longer be correct. Be sure to print your diaries first so that you can use them as a backup. Simply adjusting your percentage to correct the expenses is not that difficult. If you also want to recover more vAT, you will have to calculate this yourself and fill it in manually on your next vAT declaration. I would not do this unless it involves a large amount. In any case, you can adjust the percentage for the next invoices. You can also adjust this percentage per invoice. For example, if you believe that a particular invoice is entirely for professional purposes.

Hello,

The most practical and logical thing to do is to apply the higher percentage from the new financial year onwards. As a self-employed person, that percentage can logically increase or decrease as your income increases or decreases.

Unfortunately, I don't think that's possible in Dexxter. The only thing that seems to be possible is to open the previous financial year back and adjust it. But then the adjustment also applies to the previous financial year and my (already submitted) 2023 tax return will no longer match the figures in Dexxter.
