How do I declare my expenses for personal income tax?

Question

Hi, this question will reveal my impressive ignorance 🙂
I neatly submit my expenses to Dexxter, but I wonder how this information ends up with the government to calculate my personal income tax. At the moment, I only submit a customer list, but that does not include my expenses. I will be creating a considerable amount of income in the coming year, most of which I will pay to other services. So I want to avoid paying personal income tax on this because this money will not remain with me.

We have a forum here to address that uncertainty together. Your personal income tax must still be submitted together with your tax return as an employee; it is essentially the same tax return. I don't know whether you have frequently submitted your personal income tax (the yearly tax return that everyone must submit). But in that tax return, you simply have part 1, which states everything as an employee, loans, pension, etc. That is still the same form, even as a self-employed person. However, as a self-employed person, you have to add part 2, which is the same form, but with an extra section that you want/need to fill in. Part 2 covers everything related to your self-employed activity.

If you go to personal income tax in Dexxter, you will also see the codes that you need to fill in in part 2, i.e. for your self-employed activity. These are income, expenses, social security contributions, etc. But those codes are automatically generated, so you just need to type them in.

However, if you only started your self-employed activity in 2022 (pure guess, but perhaps the case), you will only have to declare things for your self-employed activity in 2023. Because in 2023, you will submit your tax return for the figures from 2022.

Feel free to ask any questions you may have here on the forum! Every beginning is difficult, but once you know how, it's actually quite easy :)

Great, thanks for the answer NZ! I actually had the same question myself, but didn't dare to ask good =)
