expenses at a foreign company

Question

I bought some small music supplies (conga bags, etc.) from a German and an English company to claim as expenses as a self-employed in secondary occupation. I can’t find a vAT number on them. Am I allowed to do this? Is there a limit? The total amounts were 188 euros and 96 euros.)

I have always been told that:

-> If you want to reclaim vAT, you must have a perfectly compliant invoice. This means that it must include your own vAT number and it must be an invoice (i.e. not a receipt, ticket, proof of payment, etc.).

-> If you want to claim expenses, it's not that important. Just have some kind of document stating what you bought and how much it cost in euros.

So here, it seems to me that if your vAT number is not on it, it doesn't matter at all for claiming expenses. Just claim it.

For your information, i don't know about foreign countries, but if you can't recover vAT for any reason (for example, because you only have a proof of payment instead of an invoice), then the non-recoverable vAT can also be included in your expenses.

Hopefully that helps :)

Thank you very much!
