Hi,
I would like to make purchases of a new computer from €1,200. Can I claim this as an expense (recover vAT) and as depreciation?
Thank you,
Charlotte

Hello Charlotte,
I have looked at your file and you are indeed subject to VAT. This means that you can recover vAT on purchases you have made for your self-employed activity.
When you enter the expense for your laptop (via the expenses in the left-hand side menu), you can select 'investment' in the cost categories in that flow. In the next step, we will question you what type of investment it is and over how many years you want to depreciate it.
Are you unsure about what constitutes an investment or how many years you should depreciate a computer over? Then take a look at our learning center (the icon with a hat in the top right-hand corner). If you search for articles there using the keyword 'investment', for example, you will find an article about investments.
Here's an extra tip: be sure to pay attention to the professional use percentage. Perhaps you don't use that computer 100% for your profession? If you're unsure about the term "professional use", you can also find it in our learning center :) Just search for "professional", for example.
Let us know if we can help you any further!
You really should try it out for yourself. Even if you don’t have a company number yet, you can already go ahead.
