Writing off an invoice with a date before the start of the business

Question

In 2019, I purchased a PC on invoice. My business will be launched in 2022. Can this invoice still be claimed as an investment or is it a loss?

Can it be claimed as a new expense, but with the fiscal date changed to 2019? Or as a historical depreciation without any supporting documentation?

Check the learning center for something like 'expenses for your start-up' or something similar in terms of title. It seems possible to me.

Whether it is a direct expense or an investment... Same here, check the learning centre, I would say :-) There is plenty of literature available :-)

I have read all those designs in the learning centre, but I can't find a clear answer there. My question is specifically, which is why I am asking for the experience of the people here. The learning centre deals with expenses incurred shortly before start-up. In my case, it concerns the purchases of my car from 2019. The car is essential for gathering the materials for my business. That is the first part of my question. The second part is how to include it in this package?

A PC (in your original question) or a car (your follow-up)?

Although the answer seems to be the same in both cases, you will be able to include the cost. I would not venture to reclaim vAT on such an old purchase, but the cost does not seem to be a problem.

If you still have the original document, I would enter it on that basis. Do not reclaim vAT, but do enter the cost. What you may have to do is adjust the price yourself to reflect the ageing. Suppose your PC had a new value of 1,000 euros including vAT in 2019 and you are now entering it in 2022, then I would only enter 500 euros based on that original purchase invoice.

You can check second-hand websites to find out what an accurate value for your PC (or car) is after 3 years and use that value. I would even include that comparison with second-hand websites in your file, so add it to the purchases in Dexxter. Then it will be clear later that the value you entered was in line with the market.

Thank you, that's clear. It concerns both a car and a PC. I don't reclaim vAT, as I'm going to a small business with an exemption. Thank you for your answer.
