Purchases outside the EU (Canada)

A special vAT declaration, I think, but which one?

That's what I thought too. I know it's required for the Dutch (within the EU).

But is it also required for outside the EU?

VAT is a typically European concept. So there is probably no such thing as Canadian VAT. In this case, you would normally have to pay Belgian VAT on imported goods. Sometimes this is already taken care of by the supplier themselves, if they register under the IOSS, otherwise the parcel service would take care of this vAT and you would receive an invoice from, for example, DHL, FedEx, etc. with the vAT, import taxes, etc. on it.

So I have to file an exceptional vAT declaration in Belgium.

Since this was an online purchase and I received a pDF afterwards, nothing was physically sent by post and there was no customs declaration. Otherwise, I would have known that it was okay :)

What I would do is simply call the Contact Centre from the FPS Finance and ask them that question. They will know the answer better.
