However, our name is deliberately spelled differently. The starting point: Dexxter as a right-hand man for start-ups<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Dexxter came into being when three entrepreneurs \u2013 Giel Thomas<\/strong>, Robbe Claessens<\/strong> and Stan De Pauw<\/strong> \u2013 noticed that many students and people with side businesses were getting stuck on one thing: bookkeeping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For start-ups, bookkeeping often felt like \u201ca black hole\u201d. At the same time, accountants had little capacity to take on these small start-ups, even though that is precisely where entrepreneurship begins. What started as an idea grew into a complete web application that today supports more than 23,000 users<\/strong> as a digital right-hand man<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What \u201cDexter\u201d actually means<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The word Dexter<\/strong> comes from Latin and literally means \u201cright hand\u201d<\/strong> or \u201cright side\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That meaning closes perfectly with the purpose of our application: a tool that supports you, guides you and helps propel you forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However\u2026 \u201cDexter\u201d is much more than that traditional concept today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The influence of the TV series Dexter<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For a large part of the public, Dexter<\/strong> is first and foremost the name of the iconic TV series about Dexter Morgan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The story follows Dexter Morgan<\/strong>, a forensic analyst specialising in blood spatter analysis with the Miami Police Department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the surface, he leads a normal life \u2014 colleague, brother, partner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But he leads a double life<\/strong>: he is a serial killer<\/strong> who kills only other murderers and serious criminals. He does \u201cselective killing\u201d according to a strict code of conduct, instilled by his adoptive father Harry, to keep his impulsive urges \u201cin check\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why we selected Dexxter (with a double \u201cx\u201d)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Our founders wanted to retain the positive connotation of \u201cright hand\u201d, but not take on the television-related baggage. That is why they selected Dexxter<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Distinction from the series and the pop-culture-dominated word<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

With a single x<\/em>, you\u2019re in the same space as a TV anti-hero who works in a laboratory and tracks down criminals at night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With two x\u2019s<\/em>, we establish our own neutral and professional space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. A name that sounds like a person<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhen people ask \u2018Who does your bookkeeping?\u2019, the answer is \u2018Dexxter.\u2019\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The name had to be approachable, as if you had a digital assistant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Your right-hand man at your side<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Dexxter acts as your right-hand man, assisting with your company\u2019s administration and bookkeeping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Von Restorff effect<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Ever heard of the \u2018Von Restorff effect\u2019? Put simply, it boils down to this: you remember things better if they stand out from the rest. An unusual spelling like \u2018Dexxter\u2019 makes use of this principle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Think of other well-known brands such as Flickr (without the \u2018e\u2019) or Google (derived from \u2018Googol\u2019).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
